Newcastle City Council has become the latest council to consider on a late-night levy for pubs and bars that supply alcohol between midnight and 6am, in order to “reduce alcohol-related crime and disorder” in the city centre.

The policy is planned for implementation from 1st November 2013, with monies raised being split 70%/30% between the Police and the Council, with the intention that the levy raised being spent on taxi marshalling, CCTV improvements, street pastors, street cleaning, enforcement and personal safety initiatives and increased toilet facilities.
