Following the publication of The Whiplash Report 2012, the government has announced plans to tackle the problem of Whiplash claims.

Ministry of Justice figures show that there were more than The Whiplash Report 2012, adding approximately £90 to the average motor insurance policy according to insurer estimates.

The government plans to consult on creating an independent medical panel to improve diagnosis of whiplash injuries, and allow more cases to be challenged in the Small Claims Courts to ensure exaggerated or fraudulent claims are robustly challenged. In many instances under the current system, Insurance Companies settle claims in order to keep costs down, rather than contesting.

justice Secretary Mr Chris Grayling said: “For too long honest drivers have been bearing the price of a system that has been open to abuse and it is time for that to change”
